Poor are the gardens where the Siberian Squill does not greet the spring! This is one of the bluest flowers we know; an easy bulb, sending up a multitude of singing blue bells in early spring. It takes kindly to any shady situation, including underneath evergreens, grows in grass and even tolerates sun wherever the soil is not too dry.
Its intense blue colour, its adaptability and its hardiness, makes it a perfect choice for very early spring colour. Great for long lasting woodland drifts or for plantings with early daffodils. They show best when they close ranks from the second year onwards, increasing in beauty from year to year.
Suggestion: perfect surrounding daffodils (Têtê-à-Têtê, Rapture) and early tulips (Flair, Stresa, Showwinner)
Suggestion: works well in drifts between bulbs of similar size: Anemone blanda, Chionodoxa, Crocus tommasinianus, and early wild Tulipa humilis Violacea and T. turkestanica.
