Pleione

A bulbous orchid from Tibet and a fun subject for growing indoors in pots. Plant bulbs about 1cm below soil level. They usually flower within a few weeks after planting and prefer a cool location protected from direct sunlight. Use a light potting mixture high in organic material and keep the soil slightly moist.

After flowering and when danger of frost has past, pots may be taken outside. In Northern gardens, give them sun or light shade. Where hot summers are the rule, shade is best. Withhold water when the leaves have died and place pots in a cool location indoors. In early spring water and higher temperatures will bring the bulbs back into bloom again.
