Sprekelia (Aztek lily)
Bulbs are best planted in pots (1 fills a 15cm pot) with their neck at soil level. They grow almost anywhere: in the greenhouse, on the windowsill or - during warm summer days - in pots outdoors. They usually flower within several weeks after planting, followed or accompanied by the leaves. The blooming period is variable however and flowers can be produced at anytime from spring until autumn.
Bulbs, no matter how big, only produce one stem, each with one flower. Keep the leaves growing as long as possible, withholding water when they turn yellow and go dormant. To encourage flowers in years to come, feed them with a general houseplant fertilizer during growth. When the leaves have died, keep bulbs cool and dry in their pots until spring when higher temperatures and watering will start them into growth again.
