Hymenocallis (summer flowering daffodil)
Grow the bulbs in full sun or light shade with shelter from strong winds. They may be grown in containers (3 bulbs fill a 20-25cm pot) or can be planted directly into the border at a depth of 8-10cm. Flowers usually appear in about 8 weeks. Planting can be staggered to have them bloom all through the summer into autumn. Give the plants lots of moisture during the growing season; withhold water after the foliage has died down. To encourage flowers in years to come, feed with any mild fertilizer while in growth.
Winter hardy in southern England and the south of France. Further north the bulbs may be kept from year to year by growing them in pots or by lifting the bulbs and storing them indoors over winter. Leave potted bulbs fairly dry until the following spring.
