Anemone coronaria (poppy-anemone)
They do best where they get plenty of warmth and sun, preferring fertile soil high in organic material. The tubers benefit by being soaked in water for a day or so prior to planting. Plant them with the claws down, about 5cm deep, 12cm apart. When it is hard to determine which side is down, place the tuber on its side. Keep the plants well watered during warm weather. They can also be grown in pots (10 tubers fill a 25cm pot).
In mild climates the poppy-anemones will grow as a permanent garden plants. In Holland the plants survive winter outdoors with a protective mulch of dead leaves or compost. Further north treat as annuals or tubers should be lifted and stored in a dry, airy place over winter.
