Gladiolus, large-flowered hybrids

Gladiolus will do well in any good garden soil. Plant corms about 10cm deep and 10-15cm apart. They enjoy plenty of sunshine and during dry seasons they require a thorough watering at least once a week. Cultivate after rain or watering to keep the soil loose and open. Do not plant gladiolus in the same soil many years in succession; new ground each year is best.

Except in southern Europe, Gladiolus are not winter hardy and must be lifted in the autumn when the foliage turns yellow. Allow corms to dry out in the sun for a few hours and cut off flower stalks right down to the corm. Store corms in a dry, cool, frost free place over winter until next spring.
