Zepyranthes (rain lily)
This frost-tender bulb is native to Argentina and grows best in full sun or light shade. It looks charming in close little groups edging borders and garden walks. The bulbs can also be grown successfully in pots, outdoors as well as indoors. Plant generously, for it takes quite a few to make a good show (10 bulbs easily fill a 15-20cm pot).
Winter hardy in southern England and the south of France. In coastal Holland bulbs usually survive winters outdoors with a protective mulch of compost, chipped bark or dry leaves. In colder regions the bulb are best lifted before winter or grow them in pots. Store potted bulbs indoors in a cool, dry and frost-free place during the cold months.
