Calla aethiopica

An adaptable plant which can be grown outdoors in large pots (1 tuber to a 30cm pot) or in the open border. Growing about 1m high, it is suitable for many positions including light shade. Where summers are hot, light shade is best. It tolerates a great range of soils and also makes a wonderful pond-side plant, even allowing standing water. Keep potted plants moist at all times while the plant is in active growth during spring and summer. Winter hardy in Holland and Britain with a thick cover of dry leaves. Where winters are cold and the soil is likely to freeze deeply, the plants are best taken indoors over winter. Plant 10cm deep, 50cm apart.
