When this tulip is in bloom it is the most spectacular sight in the garden. It glorifies the garden with its huge, blazing red flowers and for years it enjoyed immense popularity as a garden or potplant.
One flower coming up in the border rivets all eyes upon it. Could anything be redder? A group is simply dazzling. In its veins runs the blood of wild tulips from Central Asia. Most tulips in the wild are red and for this reason, perhaps, red tulips are the most enduring in the garden. Early-spring flowering. Height 40cm.
Suggestion: The planting could be softened with an under planting of the blue and/or white Anemones. It also makes a wonderful association with the yellow and white trumpets of narcissus Marieke and Mount Hood.
