Pulchella violacea, The ‘crocus tulip’ hails from the rough and rocky mountains of northern Iran and Turkey where it survived for many thousands of years.
It is one of the earliest tulips to flower and in a sunny, well drained location may bloom for years. The colour of the flower is best described as rosy-mauve with a dark black base, opening widely on warm sunny days. Give it the sunniest nook in the garden. A delightful early tulip, fun in pots too. Height 10cm.
Suggestion: mingle at planting time with other early spring bulbs such as Chionodoxas, Eranthis, Galanthus and blue and white Scillas.
