One of our favourite red tulips. It flowers very early, effectively bringing bright colour at the end of winter as the spring garden starts to awaken. Bunches of up to five flowers are carried on medium tall stems clasped by silver-green upright leaves.
Introduced in the 19th century when Russian travellers began to explore the regions of Central Asia. Found in Tajikistan in the southern Pamir Alai and also near Bokhara, growing on steep slopes and in light woodland. Quite persistent under normal garden conditions, returning for years in a sunny spot. Great in pots as well. Early to mid spring. Height 25cm.
Suggestion: try mixing it with Tulip Preastans Shogun for a sophisticated spectacle.
