The Spring Starflower is definitely worth growing and one of the most valuable small bulbs. It is hardy and very undemanding, decorating all sorts of odd corners in the garden in sun or light shade. If you are new at gardening, this bulb is for you.
These little bulbs clump up quickly to create a galaxy of light blue stars lasting from March through to June. Last year in our garden it attempted to bloom as early as November, until a severe frost knocked the flowers down. Undaunted, the bulbs commenced flowering again in early April. Height 10cm.
Suggestion: use it anywhere: among Muscari, Narcissus (Golden Bells, Rapture), Tulips (Flair, Showwinner) and other early bulbs, edging a path, along a hedge, and it performs well even in pots.
Suggestion: mingle Ipheion with early wild Tulipa humilis violacea for a delightful early spring scene.
