Hageri

Hageri, a pretty wild species with neat, bowl-shaped cups held high on thin 20cm stems.

The flower starts out a bright red and matures to a marvelous chocolate brown. The narrow green leaves are quite ornamental: folded down the centre en decorated with a fine red margin. Found in the eastern Mediterranean around Parnassus in Greece, Gallipoli and Smyrna in Turkey, where it flowers towards the end of April. It can be grown successfully in the garden in a warm, sunny spot though it seldom increases. A true jewel that deseves to be treasured.
