One of the earliest, prettiest and most useful crocus. When closed, the buds appear almost shy and bashful. When open everything changes, it seems to laugh, displaying its lovely lilac interior, bright orange throat and scarlet stigmas.
It is usually in flower by late winter and when snow falls about it, the flowers light up against the white carpet. A sturdy bulb that holds its own and even increases in the garden. One of the best to begin with, for it requires little attention and never disappoints. Its early flowering is a welcome treat for the bees. Height 5-7cm.
Suggestion: interplant with Galanthus, bringing you one of the loveliest colour effects of early spring.
Suggestion: also works well with Anemones and Chionodoxas.
