Large shiny purple goblets in early spring. Like all the giant Dutch crocus, the flower opens wide in the sun to show off its striking orange anthers. A good grower, hardy and enduring with each corm sending up from 2-3 flowers the first spring.
In the wild this is a bulb of Alpine meadows and it happily grows in grass. Fine for edging flower borders, in the lee of shrubs, among ground-covers or in pots close to the house. Naturalizes well in both mild and cold winter regions. Height10cm.
Suggestion: grow with dwarf daffodil Tete a Tete, the colours work well together and both bulbs require the same conditions.
Suggestion: mingle with the early red-and-yellow tulip Stresa for a classic early-spring combination.
