Lily-flowering tulips are a source of joy in late-spring. Here’s one with pointed petals in lovely sunset shades of orange-red and feathered marigold-orange. This is a sophisticated tulip; it is elegant, and surprising for a tulip, it is richly fragrant.
Under the eye of the sun it opens perfectly flat and even reflexes back a little as if about to dance away, flaring towards the sky. Plant in the border or in pots, it always creates a fine effect. Splendid for cutting and bowls of them in the house are a delight. Height 60cm.
Suggestion: Plant them with the purple tulip Louvre for a beautiful contrast planting in both colour and flower shape. For something truly sophisticated mix them with an equal number of Tulipa acuminata, the spidery, orange-red wild tulip of Turkish sultans.
