Starry many petalled white flowers that, although only 3-4cm across, manages to be one of the loveliest early spring flowers. They reach a height of 10-15cm above a mound of attractive fern-like foliage and just a touch of the sun is enough to bring it forth in late winter.
It thrives in any lightly shaded situation, often increasing generously. Great for lightning up a dull shady corner; beautiful with daffodils, blue muscari, or as a contrasting understory for early red tulips. Blooms from late winter to early spring for some 6-8 weeks.
Suggestion: sparkling as ground cover below red tulips such as Tulipa Greigii and T. linifolia, a show that last for years, asking little in return.
Suggestion: mingle with Eranthis, Galanthus and Crocus Tomassinianus in woodland areas where ferns will later unfurl.
