Akebono
Akebono
Akebono, large, semi-double tulip from Japan and its name means something like “bright sky at daybreak”.
The flower is Chinese yellow in tone, played over by brush strokes of green and red which give it a surprising lightness and grace. It flowers in mid-spring and a group of them makes a handsome show in the border or in pots. A new variety which will give every tulip lover a thrill. Height 50cm.
Suggestion: Plant blue Muscari at its feet, blue and yellow together always create a smart freshness of effect. Both are hardy and easy going bulbs, preferring the same conditions: a cool spring followed by a good summer baking. Likewise, self seeding forget-me-not (Myosotis) will make a perfect setting for it towards the front of a flower border.
