In a family that favours violets and purples this bordeaux-mauve is a welcome change. Nicely rounded flowers of unique colouring held on stocky 40cm stems. A well mannered bulb and easy to use: not too tall, flowers not too big, the broad leaves remain a nice shiny green at flowering time..
Bloom starts late spring and groups of them makes a handsome show in the border where they are best viewed against a dark background. After flowering, the seadheads dry back to a creamy-brown colour and continue to be showy until late summer and autumn. Grow in sun or light shade.
Suggestion: a handsome addition to fern borders or the wild garden. Very smart when planted in sizeable groups against the dark backdrop of a hedge or stone wall.
