Splendid allium making a marvellous garden ornament in early summer. The domed white heads have a flattish bottom, creating useful exclamation marks among other plants. Characteristic shiny, near black (nigrum) buttons adorn the centres of each of many star-shaped flowers to great effect.
The flowers last a long time and remain handsome even after the colour has gone. Due to their height, the bulbs are best planted towards the back/middle of the border, if only to hide the dying leaves at flowering time. Winter hardy. Sun or light shade. Native to Iran, Turkey and the Levant. Height 75cm.
Suggestion: try interplanting with Allium Purple Sensation, they create a lovely early summer show together.
