Largest and most spectacular of all alliums, producing perfect 25cm orbs of densely-packed purple flowers on very sturdy 100cm stems. A strong perennial with an exceptionally long blooming period. In Holland it blooms throughout early summer, a period with few other flowering bulbous plants.
They obviously deserve an important position in our garden borders. Use them in gaps among shrubs and summer blooming perennials to keep up the floral display. They will also thrive in light shade, looking great among ferns or in the wild garden. Great cut flower, fresh or dried. Deer and rodent proof.
Suggestion: beautfiful rising from behind a group of hostas or wood hyacinths (Hyacinthoides). Can be grown very effectively with blue or white coloured Camassia.
Suggestion: planted in repetitive groups around the borders they will bring a feeling of unity to the garden.
