Drumstick Onion. A rather tall growing small-flowered allium of tremendous charm. Pear-shaped flower heads held on wiry stems, greenish at first, and from the top down slowly turning a vivid wine-red. An intriguing flower, wild looking in a quiet sort of way and popular with bees and butterflies.

Plant generously in small groups dotted around the border for this is the perfect bulb to smarten up the garden in early summer. A native of Europe, growing in rocky and grassy places. Winter hardy and easy to grow in almost any fairly sunny situation. Height 60cm.

Suggestion: combine with Triteleia for a stunning early summer picture.

Plant in full sun or light shade in any soil provided it is well-drained. They are very effective both in the wild garden or in the border where they will lengthen the
season for flower bulbs. For best effect Alliums should be grown in clumps of 5 or more. Bulbs may be left undisturbed for years and should be lifted and separated only when they become too crowded.
