Allium Purple Rain

Huge flower-heads of sparkling wine-purple on relatively short stems. Each head easily holds over a hundred small six pointed stars, creating fascinating airy 15cm globes. A comparative new species, heralded as one the best and most striking of the race.

The result of a cross between A.christophii and the far better known Purple Sensation, clearly combining the best of both plants.  The leaves are still attractive at flowering time but it looks best when grown amidst other plants. Stunning among low ornamental grasses. Height 60cm.

Suggestion: looks lovely in combination with Eremurus Cleopatra; they bloom at the exact same time and the colours work well together.
