Allium Cowanii

This onion gets good marks because it is one of the earliest allium to flower, lasting well in the garden, even when planted in less choice positions. A very pretty trinket with narcissus-like leaves and loose sprays of fragrant, starry white flowers in late spring and early summer.
Drifts of it are cheerful in the border or planted freely in the wild garden in sun or light shade. Lovely for cutting. Winter hardy in Holland, in colder climates a warm and sheltered place should be chosen and covering given in winter. Height 40-50cm.
Suggestion: lovely when combined with Ipheion and Muscari; Ipheion blooms first and is joined later by Muscari. The Allium closes ranks.
