Well named: deep raspberry-red flames and feathers on a milky-white ground. A strikingly beautiful Old Dutch tulip, adding a stately touch to almost any planting. A good stayer and one of the latest tulips to bloom.
It is considered the look-alike of the fabled ‘Semper Augustus’, the most highly praised tulip of the 17th century. At the height of Tulipmania (1637) three bulbs sold for 10.000 florins, more than the price of a large Amsterdam canal house. Height 60cm.
