Honey Lily. Distinct as well as charming species – also called the 'exalted Onion'. The bell-shaped flowers hanging atop long, gently arching stems are creamy white, tinged green and wine-red. Its shape, colour and height add drama to the late spring and early summer border.
Bees and butterflies love it and on warm days the flowers drip with honey. When the flowers have finished, they turn upwards, forming beautiful seedheads that remind us of fairlytale castles. These can be dried for indoor decoration. A native of southern Europe and winter hardy in northern coastal regions. In colder regions, covering should be given in winter. Plant in sun or light shade. Height 80-90cm.
Suggestion: lovely in combination with Bearded Iris, blooming at the same time and loving the same sort of conditions.
