The lovely wood anemone, growing wild in woods and copses all over Europe. By mid spring it bears a multitude of dancing white flowers around soft yellow centres. In dull weather the petals close, revealing a lovely pink glow on the reverse.
Not only is this one of our most beautiful wild flowers it is easy to grow. It flowers slightly later than anemone blanda and can handle a more shady situation. A good site would be a light woodland setting in which the sun will sporadically light up the flowers. Height 15cm.
Suggestion: Carpet the spaces between taller-growing spring woodland plants such as Erythronium pagoda, Trillium grandiflora, Hellebores and the emerging fronds of ferns.
Suggestion: beautiful planted with Chionodoxa and Scilla, a combination that will last for many years.
